I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

Tom and I doin' our thing again....out hangin' with the stars!  I am going to be cutting my miles back a bit for the next few months.  I will try to add more umph to some of the miles that I do put in though.  While I was training for the marathon this time I just worried about miles...no pace pressures...just miles.  Now I will change that up for a bit.  So this morning it was 3 with Tom then we split for me to head home and him to get a few more in.

Pretty, stary, mild, non windy morning with Tom!  Five miles with some fartleks thrown in.  Very dark at one point I just started to say, "I hope we have sure footing here!"....as Tom tripped over some big piece of wood in the road.  Luckily he didn't go down and we made it safely home!

Four miles this morning.  AP: 8:52

We are still being lucky enough to have some beautiful days here in our little part of the world.  I was especially glad today as Tom and I attended our friend, Ellen Lotz's funeral.  What a beatuful day at the grave sight.  We will miss our cute Ellen.  She was a sweet lady and a sweet friend.  She is now again with her cute husband, George.

I wasn't quite ready to have that alarm clock beep at us this morning.....wasn't quite sure I wanted to get up and get going.  I can see why it would be so hard to stay consistent if your spouse just stays in bed and sleeps while you get out. (which is what I did for many, many years.  Glad I changed that habit!)  But with eager Tom next to me, who gets up and gets going easier than I do, it is much easier to get'r done.

I only had to do 4 miles today.  We decided to head up Canyon Road to see if we could see where the house fire was yesterday.  From the smoke we saw coming from it yesterday we could tell that it was not good at all.  When our son came home last night he told us that it burned it to the ground.  Very sad.  We couldn't see where it was.   Either it was too dark and we passed it without knowing or it was a little off of the Canyon Road.

We went up the road 2 miles with a little bit of wind against us and then back down with a little wind at our backs.

Nice morning, even with the wind.  Tom and I went down around the riverbottoms then out to our drink at Ozborns then down to the new trail section.  Met up with Hal and Darin and ran a bit with them till the bottom of Heartbreak Hill where we all separated our own ways.  Tom was adding some more as I headed on home.

I'm sure glad I got up and got running before the kids went off today!  Tom and I went out when there was a little drizzle but the temps around 52.  It was quite nice.....unlike what the rest of the morning has been like!

I think my Garmin got messed up by daylight savings time.  It took me back to Saturday.  I kind of thought with the GPS and stuff it would be able to figure that out but I guess not.  Now I have to figure it out instead.

Did a hill workout today.  Haven't done that for awhile.  Tom was doing his hills today also so it worked out pretty good.  I was glad I had shorts and short sleeves even though it was about 37 degrees.  I had a long sleeve shirt over the top to start out but tied it around my waist.  At the top of the 3rd or 4th hill I almost lost my breakfast...but didn't.

Today for my four miles I decided I would do one warm up mile then two miles in the 7:45-7:59 range then a cool down mile.

Here is what I did.

1. 9:09

2. 7:52

3. 7:35

4. 8:31

I took about a 30-40 second rest after mile two and a little bit longer after mile 3. I wore my red Sauconys.  For some reason my HR monitor wasn't working.  It didn't show anything...like it wasn't even hooked up.  I hope it's not broken.  I would have liked to know the HR today.

Took yesterday as a rest day and today as an easy 6.  Temps around 30 degrees this morning.  Luckily not a lot of wind.  So grateful to be able to run with Tom so often, especially in the early, dark morning hours.  Every night on the news we hear of another runner attacked or approached by someone suspicious!

Ran with a variety of people this morning....mostly my friend, Kay.  Nice to have some time to visit with her.  Hurried home to get ready and head to the LDS worldwide leadership meeting.  I think they did a great job with the meeting and the new handbook.  Who knew a 2 hour meeting on a handbook could be enjoyable?

There was a little snow on the ground when Tom and I went out this morning but the snow had turned to a light rain for us to run in.  We had to do some puddle jumping....each of us hit a good puddle at least once.  It wasn't actually too cold though....I ended up taking my jacket off.

Note to self:  There are a few very important birthdays this week!  Don't forget!  : )

First of all....Happy Birthday to my mommy!  And also to our Grandma Aunt Betty!  Yes, she is our Grandma Aunt.  Officially Tom's aunt who has kind of taken over as grandma for our kids since her sister, Tom's mom, passed away.  So a big happy birthday wish to two very special ladies!

My schedule today called for a 5 mile run with a 3 mile tempo in there.  Tom went out with me and helped me with it.  Two mile warm up then the 3 mile tempo.

I went a little bit longer and a little bit faster than I had planned for today, but tomorrow is a full rest day for me so I think all is good.  Plan was 5 - 6 miles around 9:00 pace.

It is a running rest day for me today so no miles to report but it is also a very special day in our family for a couple of reasons.

1.  Elder Tyler Lee has been serving his LDS mission for one whole year now!  Only one more to go!

2.  It is the birthday of my best friend, coach and hubby!  Love you Tom!

Tom and I had kind of a weird, eerie run this morning.  It was dark and the wind was howling and beating us in the face for most of the run.  As we rounded a corner in the riverbottoms we saw a flickering, orange glow in the air.  We could tell it was a fire and it gave us quite a strange feeling to think that just maybe we were going to be calling 911 and saving people from a burning house.  As we came around the corner we could see that it was away from the home a bit and someone was out BURNING WEEDS....IN THIS CRAZY WIND!  We weren't really impressed with his decision to do it right then, but everything looked under control at the moment so we carried on.

Later we heard what sounded like coyotes coming from up in the hills.  It was definitely not a sound we usually hear in these parts!  As we listened more we figured it was just the whistling wind making all kinds of crazy sounds.

The last mile and a half were the most enjoyable as the wind was finally at our backs.  Tom was able to keep up even though it was his first run as a 46 year old!  Holy Cow!  I'm married to an old man!  (But he's one mighty fine old man if I do say so myself!)

Tom and I met up with a few SF runners and met more along the way.  Always fun to see who we will end up running with on Saturday morning.  Some people are still heading out at 5:00-5:30.  They still think it is summer time those silly guys and gals!

Today I get to spend the rest of the day in meetings.  I feel like Bonnie, only not as fast, (or as smart!)   : )

Crusty ice on the roads in the early, cold morning doesn't stop us from getting out and running.  So why do I let other important things get put on the back burner with any little excuse?  There are so many good, better and best things I need to be doing that I keep neglecting.  : (

Not a bad morning for some speedwork on the track with Tom.  The next few mornings are going to be very cold...I'm glad today worked out well.  Down at the track the wind was a little less fierce than up here near our home.

Today's plan was 6-8 half mile @ 5K pace.

Over all Pace: 8:25 - Over all H/R:  160 - Max H/R: 184

Fast                     Recovery

1/2 mile: 3:49       1/4 mile: 2:33

1/2 mile: 3:49       1/4 mile:2:30

1/2 mile: 3:47       1/4 mile: 2:41

1/2 mile: 3:47       1/4 mile: 2:42

1/2 mile: 3:45       1/4 mile: 2:42

1/2 mile: 3:44       1/4 mile: 2:41

1/2 mile: 3:39        Then a little walk for cool down.

I feel happy about this workout and am very grateful for my dedicated and consistent running buddy!

Tom was able to work at home today so we went out for our run around 11:00.  We were only together for just over a mile then he did his hills while I had a recovery day.

Temps were in the teens but with the beautiful sun above it was quite nice.  In fact, we were overdressed when we walked out the door.  We quickly turned around and left some of the gear home which turned out to be a great idea.

It always feels good to come home and know I got the run in.  Now if we can just muster up enough umph to go out with the SF running group tomorrow morning when it's suppose to hit -2.    I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!  It's a great way to start out our Thanksgiving Day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

We had a very nice Thanksgiving here at the Lee home today!  Plenty of food for all!  Lots of fun, including our BINGO game with Grandma and Grandpa.  Always lots of fun prizes to choose from!

Tom and I joined in with the SF running club for our annual Thanksgiving run and gift exchange.  Six miles in 5 degrees!  Not too bad except for the very first few blocks and a half a mile with the wind chopping at our faces!

Four miles with Tom. Temps in the teens.  The sun fooled us a bit and we felt a bit overdressed again when the wind was not against us.  Added in about a mile walk just to enjoy the sunshine!  If felt good.

My plan for today was 8 miles with 6 of them around the 8-8 1/2 range.  I wasn't sure what I would be able to hit with the colder temps.  There were about 8 or 9 runners in the group, Tyler S and Tom helped me a ton to reach my goal.

Now time to have more family around for some good ole' football and feeding frenzies!  Just very grateful for each and every day and for the blessings each one brings.  I know several families who are mourning this week.  My heart and prayers go out to them.

The good/bad thing about going out and running on Thanksgiving moring with temps about 5 degrees is that we proved to ourselves that we can do it.  So when we get up and it's in the teens we really don't have any good excuse for not getting out.  Luckliy the wind has been cooperating with us too.  That would be the one exception...if it's in the teens and the wind is doing it's Spanish Fork howl, we may have a good excuse then!

This morning we just got up and got ready and got out the door.  I like to run with a small flashlight to help me see, but mostly to help me be seen!  Today it was fun to shine it on all the beautifuly flocked trees in the river bottoms!  Sparkles, sparkles, sparkles!  It looked like a glitter fairy had worked her way thought the streets last night and went heavy on the glitter!  Totally worth the early, cold morning just to see that!  : )
