Tom and I had kind of a weird, eerie run this morning. It was dark and the wind was howling and beating us in the face for most of the run. As we rounded a corner in the riverbottoms we saw a flickering, orange glow in the air. We could tell it was a fire and it gave us quite a strange feeling to think that just maybe we were going to be calling 911 and saving people from a burning house. As we came around the corner we could see that it was away from the home a bit and someone was out BURNING WEEDS....IN THIS CRAZY WIND! We weren't really impressed with his decision to do it right then, but everything looked under control at the moment so we carried on.
Later we heard what sounded like coyotes coming from up in the hills. It was definitely not a sound we usually hear in these parts! As we listened more we figured it was just the whistling wind making all kinds of crazy sounds.
The last mile and a half were the most enjoyable as the wind was finally at our backs. Tom was able to keep up even though it was his first run as a 46 year old! Holy Cow! I'm married to an old man! (But he's one mighty fine old man if I do say so myself!) |
