Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

:o(

Check back later for details.  Gotta go right now.

OK, here's the details.  I'm writing them in purple so they look happy and cheerful!  :o)  Knee started hurting at about 2.2 miles.  I stopped to stretch about 3 or 4 times but had to walk home after 3.2 miles.

I've tried lots and lots of things to help my IT band, but I think what it needs more than anything else is REST!  So I think, (unless anyone who really knows tells me differently), that I have ran my last run until October 4th.  I feel like that at this point anything else I put on my knee is going to be a negative impact on it.  If I rest it I will probably be slower than I would have liked to be, but I will hopefully be able to cross the finish line and not just the starting line.  I no longer have any goals but to CROSS THE FISNISH LINE...HOPEFULLY IT BAND PAIN FREE!

I'm not quite sure how I will do emotionally by stopping my running at this point, but I think I will take the negative emotional aspects better now than if I am not able to complete this marathon on race day.

I feel good about my decision but I welcome any advice or feedback.  I may put this on the discussion board for further advice also.  However, in the end, I will follow my own feelings...they always seem to know best.

Smiles  :o)

Today was my first day of a little cross training action.  I got 1 hour and 10 minutes riding a bike while Tom did his run.  I am glad we gave our daughter a new, soft seat for her bike for her b-day last week.  :o)   I'm not counting any cross training miles because at the end of the year I want to look and see how many miles I actually ran this year.

I went to Josse yesterday for a massage and scrape!  Holy Cow!  I came home and showed my kids my leg.  I told them that Josse's plan is to cause so much pain in other areas that I don't notice the pain from the IT band!  ha ha!  :o)  My one daughter thought I was serious and gave me a pretty funny look.  Anyway, I really feel good about  what Josse did for me.  Thank you Josse!  I am still going to rest at least for this week.  I will go for a bike ride this evening and do some stretches that have been reccomended.  Next Monday I MIGHT try a very gentle run.  If all goes well I MIGHT try another one on Wednesday.

P.M. SF Runner's Club Moonlight Run was tonight.  I took the bike and made it a moonlight bike ride.  I had fun, but was a tad jealous of the runners.

It's down to the single digit count down.

  • Who's bodies are going to make it to the starting line?
  • Who's bodies will let them make it over the finish line?
  • Who will be able to reach the goals they have set?
  • Who will be disappointed because they fall a little short?
  • Who will go beyond their expectations?
  • Who will have the most embarassing moment?

The answer to these and many more questions in only 9 more days on the race reports!  It will be a very interesting day indeed!

Thanks again to everyone for all the help and encouragement you have sent my way!  :o)

Kind of busy around here today.  Weddings, hospitals, doctor appointments.....I got a little cross training action on the bike this morning.  The doctor I went to wants me to try about 3-4 miles running on Monday.  We'll see how it goes.

    Happy Birthday Tyler!

It's very hard for me to believe, but our second son is now 18 years old!  Hmmmm....I guess we ought to go out and get him a present or something....It's been such a crazy week.

Bitter/sweet day yesterday.  (See Tom's entry from yesterday for details.)  Unfortunately our sister-in-law is still in the hospital.  Missed her own daughter's wedding.  I sat with her in the hospital last night while everyone else was at the reception.  Makes me think a bit differently about the posibility of me missing a measly old marathon.  If I can't make it over the finish line I will get another chance if I want.  Your only daughter only gets married once...(hopefully!)

Today and tomorrow is are full days of rest.  I had an injection in my knee yesterday and I need to lay low for 2 days before trying the knee out again.  Monday morning we'll see how it feels. A big thanks to Felicia, (Pinkie on the blog), for some really great, extra mile service!
