Running Accomplishments:

I started running in the fall of 2007.  I truly believe I was inspired to start running and I have seen some very big blessings come my way because of following that inspiration.

Ran Boston Marathon 2013 & 2014.  My favorite PRs:  2011 at the SG 1/2 and 5K where I ran the 5K in 22:22.    2013 Nebo 1/2 (downhill) 1:36:15

Short-Term Running Goals:

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running throughout life with Tom. Staying healthy and happy.

Learn from others, learn from myself, work hard, do my best, enjoy!

On running and on life.....

On occasion we need to make a second effort - and a third effort, and a fourth effort, and as many degrees of effort as may be required to accomplish what we strive to achieve.

OK....I'm not the kind of girl to sit around and watch everyone else have all the fun!  I have been a "silent lurker", (as Tom put it), of the fast running blog since meeting many of you fine people in St. George last week!  I am planning on running the St. George 1/2 in January.  Moab actually sounds like a great idea also!

My training right now is with a friend who has never ran until she started with me in August.  We are taking it pretty easy and slow.  My first half was in Jan. 2000 with a time of 2 hours 20 minutes. (When I crossed the finish line the guy who gave me my time ticket told me, "All you need to do is cut 4 minutes off of each mile and you can be a contender!")  Wasn't he a funny guy?!   My second half was in Jan. 2006 with a time of 2 hours and 10 minutes.  I think this one will be much slower with my training partner, but at least I am running again.  Maybe I can try to pick up the pace for Moab.

It really was fun to meet many of you in St. George!  I hadn't really paid much attention to the blogging that Tom was in to until I saw how nice you all are!   It was so fun to sit at the finish line and see all you awesome runners come in so fast!

Got to run 3 with Tom.  He ran his regular route, then came home and waited for me to wake up and then went with me.  (The kids didn't have school today, so waited until about 9:00 to run).  It was great to run with Tom again, haven't done that in a while.  I'm sure it probably drives him crazy to go so slow with me, but he never complains!

My running buddy didn't run with me all last week and she wasn't there again today.  Not sure what is going to happen there.  Oh well, I got 5 miles in on my own and that feels like a huge accomplishment for me!  I haven't ran 5 in about a year and a half.  I let a knee injury take me from running 16 miles to zippo!  It has taken awhile to get back into the groove.  I'll go ahead and give my split times even though to most of  you it seems very slow.

I have to say that most of it was enjoyable.  The last .25-.30 seemed worse than the whole first 4:75!  I was happy to see the garmin hit that 5 mile mark.  It's amazing how much I thought of all of you while I was out there!  It really is encouraging to know you have a support group out there!

I have never been more than a 3 day a week runner, but thought I'd try to get 4-5 days in from now on.   Four will be my goal, 5-6 will be icing on the cake, (but I won't eat it, just enjoy that I did it!)  It's my fitness level that needs to improve.  My legs do fine, but I do a good huff'n and puff'n that some of you have mentioned you have ran by in races before.  Maybe I'll start the "Choo, choo" along with the huff'n and puff'n!

Two today without the partner again.  She says she'll be there tomorrow , but she hasn't done anything for a week and a half so I'm not sure how it will go.

Running partner was there this morning.  I wasn't sure how much she would be able to do.  She actally did better than I thought she would.  We got 4 in in 54:54.  Slow, but steady.  It was actually fun because I wasn't huffin' and puffin' and choo chooin'!

I am going to simplify for awhile.  I will just be submitting basic information for my records.

Ran with Rui, (my dog).

Met  my running partner on a cold morning.  Luckily when we go the sun is starting to pop out over the mountain.  She thought we were going 3, but I got her to go 5 with me.  It was at her pace so it took an hour and 6 minutes, but I am just  happy to get the miles in.  That is the first time she has gone more than 4.  Last week I got in 17 1/2.  I'm shooting for 20 this week.

Four miles with my good little running buddy, Rui!  A great little partner, I just wish I didn't have to carry a clean up bag for him.  He is a Silky Terrier and only has about 5 inch long legs, but he carries me through 4 miles easily.  However, he is curled up in a ball at my feet right now having a nap.  I actually had my whole entry written a minute ago and hit some wrong button that sent it off to never never land.  So if for some reason you see two entries of mine that look similar, it is because they both found there way to the site.  I looked for the other one and couldn't see it though.  Oh well.

Tom and I have a Japanese boy coming to stay with us for a week.  We pick him up at BYU tonight.  Our family is very excited to have him come.  Especially since Tom served a mission in Japan and our oldest boy is now serving in Tokyo.  We are hoping to give him some great American experiences while he is here.  If anyone has an idea of something he might like to do, (preferably in Utah County), we would love to hear your ideas.

For my records, here are my miles.

Thanks to all you bloggers for helping me through the last half mile.  Thinking of reporting to you  helped me make it to the end!

Three miles with Beth and then I picked up Rui for one more.  I was only planning on 3 but when I walked into the house Rui was going crazy that I hadn't taken him along.  So we went out for one. I think Rui is getting the benefits just like Lybi's son.  Running and being out in the fresh autumn air is good for all of us!  I always thought that since Rui is a small dog that he was getting enough by  just running around the back yard.  Maybe if I keep this up with him he will turn into a  nice, mellow dog.  It is definitely worth a try!  I never thought I could enjoy running more than 3 days a week, but I am doing it and loving it!  My goal is 4-6 days a week.  It looks like 5 will usually be the ticket for me.

I just  realized it was 16 years ago this month that Tom and I moved to this windy city of Spanish Fork, Ut.  I have seen someone on this blog site mention that they ENJOY running in the wind.  I myself have not found that joy....YET!  Who knows, maybe it will come.

This morning I was able to get four in with Tom and Rui.  There were a couple times when we turned into the wind and I was not a real happy camper, (runner).  I guess it does KIND OF feel good to tackle the wind and win, but I could do without it!

I love making goals and actually achieving them!  My goal for this week was 20 miles with 4-6 days running.  So far I have 17 miles and have ran M, T, W and today!  Woo hoo for me!  (Sorry, I am the kind of person that needs pats on the back, even if they are from myself!)

This is the first week in my life that I have ever ran 5 days in a row.  I always thought you need to have a day of rest between.  It feels great!  I think it is good for me to run alone, (or with Tom or Rui), one day and then with Beth the next.  I have to slow down a bit for Beth and it makes five-six days/week work out good.  21 miles this week, no specific aches or pains!  Need to go get some new shoes soon.

Got up and put 2.5 miles in with Tom's cool down run, (my fast run).  Today was day 6 of running this week.  It was a little harder than I thought it would, (or should), be.  I guess going each day and adding miles will do that.

We are off to Thanksgiving Point to show Kazuki the dinosaurs.  And then my girls,(ages 10 and 7) ,and I are off to see Hannah Montana!  Tom and the boys get to go to the banquet for the Japanese exchange we are doing this week.  Should be a fun day for all!

And then,,,,,,,a day of rest!

Ran .3 while I waited for my running partner to get home from taking kids to school.  A bit windy to start out, but settled down to a nice morning for a run.  We are adding one mile each week to our long run to get ready for the Painter's half in Jan.

Took yesterday off, mostly because of several things I needed to do.  But I found that my hips really appreciated the day of rest.  Last week I ran more miles and more days - and Monday I ran the longest I have in a year and a half.  I think my body needed an extra day, today I actually have "happy hips"!

Went four on my own, (actually I had Josh Groban, SuperTramp, and a few others along to help it be more enjoyable.
