Personal:

Married to Tom for 21 really great years!

Five kids, oldest on an LDS mission in Tokyo, Japan.

Love to have a good time and enjoy time with family and friends.

This morning it was a little harder for me to wake up! A gentle nudging from Tom helped at least roll me out. Luckily I had a little time to get moving since we had to drive to Salem to run up and down Loafer Mountain! (that's weird, I started that sentence with "luckily", and ended with "mountain" with "run up" in the middle! When did I turn into this crazy running gal?)

Anyway, it was up and then it was down! In the second mile I was able to say "I'll make it to the next mailbox" then "I'll make it to the next sign", ect....But soon the mailboxes and signs were gone and I had to say, "I'll make it to that next pothole.", "I'll make it to that next bend." That is when a cute little hummingbird came to help us along. He was so cute, he would fly just ahead of us and wait for us to catch up and then move forward again. He did it several times! He did it until we could see the fence post of the gate we were going to. Once he knew we were going to make it, he went of on his merry way! As he flew in front of us we became animated, the trees and road became animated, colorful flowers bloomed beneath our feet, rainbows appeared above the trees, I was Julie Andrews and Tom was Dick Van Dyke and we looked lovely and dapper and bounced freely to the gate.....Oh wait, I said that outloud didn't I? That was the part that was all in my mind! Actually when we reached the gate I felt like throwing up...even though that lovely little scene had been playing in my little theater in my head! Just for the record, coming down is much easier! Happy July 1st ya' all!

I thought I'd better add my times for my first time up and down Loafer Canyon.

3.3 up and 3.3 down

11:47   11:38  11:54  8:37  8:02  8:02  last .60 = 8:18

Fourth mile had about .3 uphill and the rest down.

Yeah I don't remember that part when Julie Andrews throws up. Wow maybe sometime we can have an awesome run date when we BOTH throw up at the end! How romantic!!! (let's see...."the family that throws up together grows up together?"..umm..."the family the pukes together withstands nukes together"...."the family the upchucks together makes big bucks together..."? OK enough of the lame rhymes, but maybe I like a couple of those :))

Hey you did good today. Pretty much everybody feels like they want to throw up the first time they run Loafer. Good news is we probably won't need to be doing it anymore as we focus more on the downhill Payson runs. OK maybe we'll do it one more time.

Great job Kim! You are doing so good! I am so proud of you, you have truly come along way!

From marion on Jul 01, 2008 at 12:55:29

You put a smile on my face :) Thanks, I needed the chuckle! I also needed to know that someone else wanted to toss their cookies this week too! I think it is the unnatural hours! All this 0'dark hundred stuff is for crazy people!! (oh wait, that's us now!) The white trash version of 0'dark hundred is "the butt crack of dawn." Personnaly, the latter is my closet favorite!

From Kim on Jul 01, 2008 at 13:12:42

What do you mean....Toss my cookies...there wouldn't be any cookies there, or peanut butter m & ms or anything like that! I'm sure you should be saying "toss your fruits and veggies and oats and garlic"!

From Paul T on Jul 01, 2008 at 14:01:49

Gosh, if I can see cute hummingbirds, and become Dick Van Dyke, and feel like puking all in the same run it might be worth the drive down sometime to run Loafer Mountain.

I do think your talk of Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke has inspired me to add "Step in Time" as one of my "inside my head" running songs. I've always loved the high-spirited energy of that song. I could add some of my own verses.

"Keep the pace up. Step in Time."

"Run up Veyo. Step in Time."

"Catch the old guy. Step in Time."

"One more mile. Step in Time."

"Get the PR. Step in Time."

etc.

With the awesome rhymes Tom came up with above, he could probably help me come up with some even better ones.

Now, if that is what you are eating before, your run NO WONDER you are barfing!!! =}

From Jody on Jul 01, 2008 at 16:12:51

You are One Tough Cookie!!! Way to go!!

From Kim on Jul 01, 2008 at 19:16:46

Paul,

I love the "Step in Time" thing! It's going to help me run SGM! Unfortunately there are several younger people on this blog who have no idea what in the world we are talking about! They don't make movies like that anymore!

From Kim on Jul 01, 2008 at 19:23:31

Kim, you missed out on big time commando points for upchucking. Hey, you is the old guy? Could be many of us. Yes, you are offically a crazy runner. Howling Commando status for you and Tom.

Stay Kool, with Julie, B of BS Rools out

Love your entries! Esp. love when you mention the animals & lovely nature you see on your runs. I ran past a duck with 8 chics the other day and thought of you!

From Shauna on Jul 01, 2008 at 22:51:15

Great run today-that sounds really tough!

I have also felt like throwing up on a run but have never actually done it. I think it will be a badge of honor! Crazy! Kinda like your sentence with "luckily," "running," and "mountain" all together!

From Kim on Jul 02, 2008 at 09:25:30

OK Paul,

I just got home from my Wed. run and guess what I was singing the whole way? I think step in time is going to pull me through some rough running times here and there!

I appreciate everyone's support! And I love Howling Commando status! Thanks everyone!

From Laurie on Jul 02, 2008 at 09:32:43

Oh what fun stories! And how can Mary Poppins be too old for the young people to know about. I have a hard time accepting that. Just cause I turned 29(for the FIRST time) last year doesn't mean a thing, oooooooohhh and peanut butter m&m's are the greatest invention ever. And if you run out of those a spoon, peanut butter, and chocolate chips will do.

Good thing I don't keep anything like that in the house anymore.

And Kim, thank you for your wonderful entries! "They light up my life......"

From Paul T on Jul 02, 2008 at 09:45:36

I just got back from my Wed. morning run and I found myself singing "Run the big hills. Step in time" as I chugged up the water tank hills this morning with Larry and Wayne.

And speaking of eating good things that Sasha would never approve of, Wayne was wondering just this morning how we can burn 40,000 calories a month running and not lose weight. Then he mentioned he had not one, but two Wendy's root beer floats yesterday. Larry had one of their new shakes. And I ate about a dozen of Karen's oatmeal cookies with chocolate on top yesterday. At least running allows us to eat delicious things without gaining weight. I think I'll go grab a cookie to nibble on while I blog my run...

From marion on Jul 02, 2008 at 09:52:02

Paul & Laurie- you are my kind of friends! Not run to live- but run to EAT(crap and more crap, ha, ha, ha {evil laugh})!!!

From Tom on Jul 02, 2008 at 12:37:21

Paul - I think I may just adopt the "Step in time" mantra in my hard workouts and races and see how it goes. Here are a few more lines to consider....

"Try and vomit. Step in Time"

"Embrace the pain. Step in Time"

"Don't get chicked. Step in Time"

"Endorphine BUZZ! Step in Time"

"Hurts so GOOD. Step in Time"

"Fight the good fight. Step in Time"

"Keep the faith. Step in Time"

"WIN THE RACE! Step in Time"

From Kim Robison on Jul 03, 2008 at 10:17:28

This is quite possibly the wildest most refreshing blog I've ever layed eyes on! We're all slightly crazy I think. . . or maybe we're all completely normal and everyone else is a little crazy!

Whatever. . .

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to run again without this lovely picture in my head and Mary Poppins dancing through my mind! Not to mention the songs. . .

Thanks for a good laugh first thing in the morning.

From Tom on Jul 03, 2008 at 10:53:02

OK so after 3 straight days of having this dang song stuck in my head I've come up with a new verse.

"I hate this song. Step in Time"

"Driving me crazy. Step in Time"

"Going bonkers! Step in Time"

"WHERE IS MY IPOD! Step in Time"

From Kim Robison on Jul 03, 2008 at 11:07:20

Thanks for the warning! I can see how this definately could become a problem!
